...always shifting, the river digging deeper. I drag a line into the banks: a single rectilinear gesture in a desert of curve and shadow. In a swell, the river has swallowed this discrepancy. The bank re-settles and the mark is erased. How awing this force must be over endless time. Each second the sands sway, time is counted across a low, collective line—horizontal and unseen.
